Níniel

'Tear-maiden'

When Túrin found a maiden lying terrified on Haudh-en-Elleth, he and the men of Brethil who were with him carried her to a nearby house to care for her. The maiden was Nienor, Túrin's sister, but he did not know her and Glaurung had placed a spell of forgetfulness on her so that she could not remember anything, not even her name. She could not speak, and so could not respond to Túrin's questions and wept. Because of this Túrin gave her the name Níniel.
