The New Shadow is a fragment of a story taking place in the FourthAge. It begins some 100 years after the destruction of the OneRing. Tolkien evidently begun writing it in the 1950s, but soon abandoned it again. It he took at least two more attempts to continue the story later on, but both times seems to have lost his interest in it again, after a short while...
