Isildur and Anárion ruled Gondor, from Ithilien and MinasAnor, respectively. The lands were named for their shape; Ithilien pitched like the West side of the Cascade Mountains in Oregon and Washington, to catch the setting moon under dark trees. But MinasAnor, on the knee of a mountain leaning towards the East, would catch the full blaze of the rising sun every morning.

But Isildur and Anárion were named when they lived on the island of Westernesse. Presumably they were named after Númenorean territories in Middle-earth. If so, they were named prophetically.
