This mound was raised with great labor by Finrod Felagund a league to the east from the doors of Nargothrond. From this hill watchers could see the land all around, hence the name of the hill which means Hill of Spies. On this hill Mablung left Morwen and Nienor when he sought to enter Nargothrond by stealth. Here Nienor met with the eyes of Glaurung, "who laid a spell of utter darkness and forgetfulness upon her."
