The Atlas of Tolkiens Middle-earth

The Atlas of Tolkien's Middle-earth by Karen Wynn Fonstad

Author:Karen Wynn Fonstad
Title:The Atlas of Tolkien's Middle-earth
Published:1981 Houghton Mifflin

Description:

Mrs. Fonstad created really great Maps covering the whole timespan from the FirstAge until the beginning of the FourthAge, regional maps of the areas involved in The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings. A few thematic maps about landform, vegetation, etc. are given too. The maps are based on the information given by J.R.R. Tolkien as well as on his and Christopher Tolkien's drawings.

Another source of interest for this topic is: HoMe Vol.4 (The Shaping of Middle-earth). Here the chronological and geographical structure of the shaping of Middle-earth and Valinor is covered in great detail and the original drawings of JRR and Christopher Tolkien are reprinted as well.
