OE 'Goblin-men'

The name of the statues on the way from Edoras to Dunharrow, given by the Rohirrim. They were built by the {Men of the Mountains}? during the FirstAge. The statues represented the ancestors of the Drúedain who were persecuted by them, mistaken for Orcs.

The name contains the Old English word puk for goblin, also seen in the traditional name Puck.
