High Pass

Pass over the MistyMountains, east of Rivendell, kept open at the end of the Third Age by the Beornings, who exacted tolls (according to Gimli).

The HighPass was mainly used by Dwarves in their travels between Dale and the mines of the BlueMountains. Thought to be safe from Orcs (after the War of the Dwarves and Orcs), Thorin and company were nonetheless captured here on their way to Erebor in 2941.

The HighPass was also known by its Sindarin name, Cirith Forn en Andrath ("the High-climbing Pass of the North"). The Host of the Last Alliance had used this route across the Mountains on their way to Dagorlad, and Isildur had planned to return this way to Arnor.
