Battle of Nanduhirion

The last battle fought in the War of the Dwarves and Orcs before the gates of Moria in the winter of III 2799. Many Orcs and Dwarves were killed, but the Dwarves won the day. Azog slew Náin and was then killed by Dáin II. Thorin also gained his surname of Oakenshield in this battle by using the bough of an oak tree as a shield. Dáin II, himself, saw the Balrog of Moria just inside the East-gates of and advised the dwarves not to enter Moria at that time.
